The Shimano Stella SW

When it comes to high-end spinning reels the Shimano Stella SW is the best you can get. Its strong, reliable and the drag is as smooth as a baby’s bottom. It can handle anything you can throw at it, GT, Doggies even Marlin, if you can hook it this baby can handle it. Like every reel, you do still need to give it good old-fashioned TLC if you want the best out of it look after it! Give it a rinse in fresh water after every outing and give it a service every few months.

The Stella SW comes in 13 different sizes ranging from a 4000 series right up to a 30,000 series with the drag and line capacity increasing as you go up.

Shimano Saragosa SW

The Shimano Saragosa SW isn’t as sleek or strong as the Stella but is a very strong, robust reel in its own right and when you consider it is almost half the price as the Stella it starts becoming a very attractive option. Consider that both the 20,000 and 25,000 series reels have 20kgs of drag which is more than enough to stop most big fish. I’ve personally caught a 41kg GT on this reel and if the fish top 10m it was a lot. If you’re on a bit of a budget but still need an immensely strong reel this would be a good option to go for.
